Thomas A. Herta

Tom Herta is a Partner and Co-Founder of Davenport Partners. He has been involved along with the other founding partners in all of the acquisitions, development and management of the properties in which Davenport Partners have been involved since its founding in 2002. In addition he has taken an active role in the due diligence necessary for the acquisition and subsequent sale of properties and continues to assist the DPI staff in whatever role they may request he assume.

Tom has over 40 years experience in commercial real estate. Mr. Herta began his career in Detroit, Michigan with a regional developer. For ten years he was involved in the development and management of office, industrial, residential and retail properties.

Mr. Herta subsequently joined the real estate staff of General Motors as a Commercial/Industrial Negotiator. After two years he was promoted and transferred to New York City as the Director of Operations for the 2 million square foot General Motors Building. In addition he hosted the monthly General Motors Board of Directors meeting. Upon returning to Detroit he was promoted to the position of Administrator of all General Motors real estate in the United States and briefly administered GM’s international requirements.

In 1981 Mr. Herta relocated to Los Angeles and joined Beneficial Standard as the Vice President of its real estate investment staff. The Beneficial portfolio included a few million square feet of office, retail and industrial property.

In 1984 Mr. Herta joined the newly formed TCW Realty Advisors as a Vice President/Portfolio Manager eventually rising to the position of Senior Partner and Director of Portfolio Management. During his tenure, TCW’s portfolio grew to a value of $4.5 billion and 36.5 million square feet of investment in office, industrial, retail and land throughout the United States. The firm was sold in 1995 and Mr. Herta retired as did most of the other Senior Partners.

In 1999 Mr. Herta joined Spieker Properties on a consulting basis. He was soon invited to join the Spieker team as Vice President with responsibility for the LA West sub-region. Subsequent to Spieker Properties merger into Equity Office Properties, Mr. Herta continued to be responsible for EOP’s LA West office portfolio in the position of Managing Director until the founding of Davenport Partners.
